Up and down Italy with the Mille Miglia

This year too we followed the Mille Miglia, the most beautiful race in the world. Brescia, Rome and then Brescia again for 2000 kilometers in 4 days, 33 nations represented even if Italy dominates, 71 examples of different cars dating from 1927 to 1957, years in which the race was a real race. We, however, were on board an Audi Q5 Sportback 50 TFSI and quattro S Tronic which was certainly brand new to be able to follow all the cars. And for the first time in twenty years the tour was done anti-clockwise. Instead of going east or towards the Veneto so to speak, we went west making the first stop in Turin, the second in Viareggio and then descending along the beautiful Tuscan coast until reaching upper Lazio passing through Pitigliano, Viterbo, the lake of Vico and triumphantly enter the capital and see the cars parade along Via Veneto.

On the third day, after saying goodbye to the (beautiful) Cathedral of Orvieto, we stopped in Solomeo where the hosts Brunello Cucinelli, with his daughters and sons-in-law welcomed us with the most elegant of breakfasts.

As always, the culmination of the race took place on the Futa and Radicosa passes (Tuscan-Emilian Apennines) where the views become icons. Arrival at night in Bologna and then the last day with an early rise and return to Brescia for the grand finale.

This year, as always, we followed the entire race in reverse, sitting in the open hood of the car and equipped with a harness and a helmet. We took the photos with analog cameras often of the same age as the cars passing through the viewfinder. It’s really true, you never get tired of this adventure. It will be for the wonderful landscapes and villages of the Bel Paese but also for the meetings of enthusiasts with people of all ages.

In a small village a boy even proposed that I share his sandwiches with him.
