The General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems (GGPSDD) of the Ministry of Digital Governance has significantly upgraded database infrastructures.
This is the first upgrade after eight years, which is implemented by decision of the Minister of State and Digital Government Kyriakos Pierrakakis and the Secretary General of Information Systems of Public Administration Demosthenes Anagnostopoulos, and concerns the transfer of more than 100 databases.
The huge increase in the number of citizens’ digital transactions with the State has also increased the infrastructure requirements of the GGPSDD. At the same time, the need to address the pandemic has led to the creation of multiple tools, the universal use of which has become part of our daily lives. Indicatively, it is mentioned that from the 1st of January until the 31st of December of the last year, the systems of the State either provided digital services to the citizens, or “spoke to each other” a total of 566,962,980 times. This number is six times higher than the corresponding number of 2020, when digital transactions amounted to 94 million, having recorded a large increase compared to 2019 and 2018, when the number reached 34 and 8.8 million respectively
The transition was made to new infrastructure of Private Cloud Databases, which are under the management of the staff of the General Secretariat of Information Systems of Public Administration. The aim of the upgrade is to improve daily transactions and the quality of services to citizens, businesses and public administration.
This upgrade was a complex undertaking that required many months of preparation. The intervals during which the services of the General Secretariat of Public Administration Information Systems were not available to the citizens for the needs of the upgrade were very limited, namely on the dates 8-9 May 2021, 5-6 June 2021 and 11-13 February 2022.
From the first weeks of operation of the new systems, an improvement of the speed of service of the citizen in the applications of the Public Administration was recorded. Indicative is the reduction in the service time of citizens by 40% to 75% for requests for interoperability in the most important internet services that are widely used by gov.gr such as access through Taxisnet, the confirmation of personal data and the information of the Tax Registry. In practice, this means that even when the number of digital service users is extremely high, the citizen will be able to be served without delay.
In addition, the following are ensured:
• The increase of the processing power and the capacity of the data center of GGPSDD.
• Maximizing the availability of applications.
• The ability to dynamically fluctuate processing power, depending on current changes in business needs.
• Improving the level of data security, by introducing improved encryption algorithms and preventing malicious access.
