UPS Enters the Metaverse Market with Virtual Delivery Services

US postal operator United Parcel Service (UPS) has filed for the trademarks of UPS, United Parcel Service and The UPS Store in the form of NFTs.

Patent and Trademark Attorney Mike Kondoudis announced this in his Twitter. According to him, UPS plans to protect its rights when providing services in the metaverse. UPS plans to offer its own collectible NFTs, NFT-enabled media, virtual retail delivery services, NFT-enabled digital goods and media marketplaces, and virtual goods retail stores.

“UPS is a global shipping brand and the value of its trademarks is significant. These documents are a logical step to protect the UPS brand as it enters the Metaverse,” said Kondoudis.

The UPS attorney noted that these patent applications could spark a wave of similar applications from other shipping, logistics and package delivery companies.

“We expect trademark filings in the form of NFTs and virtual products and services from the delivery sector to increase over the next 12 months as brands recognize the need to protect rights in the metaverse,” Kondulis said.

Recently, the Mastercard payment system filed applications with the US Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) related to the registration of the Mastercard and Priceless brands to provide e-commerce services in the metaverse.
