Upstate NY Amazon employees vote against unionization

Amazon employees in upstate New York voted against possible unionization, a setback for labor activists trying to expand their efforts at the tech giant.

The National Labor Relations Board said about 66% of employees who voted at a company facility near the New York state capital city of Albany rejected the Amazon Workers Union, which it had won, earlier this year. , a historic vote at a company warehouse in the Staten Island district.

An Amazon spokeswoman said the institution is happy that workers have chosen to maintain a direct relationship with the company, which it sees as the best decision for employees and customers.

“We will continue to work directly with our teammates in Albany, as we do everywhere else.”

Amazon Workers Union President Chris Smalls says members are determined to continue the expansion of the campaign for fair treatment for all Amazon workers. “It’s not a loss, it’s an ongoing battle,” he said on Tuesday.
