Ursula von der Leyen: We are safe for the winter

We are safe for the winter» emphasized the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, referring to the energy crisis in a speech at the College of Europe in Bruges. Ms. von der Leyen noted that “world energy supply is limited due to Russia’s war of aggression».

He added that Russia had cut off 80% of its pipeline gas supply to Europe in just eight months.

“But we were able to make up for it” said the President of the Commission, speaking of something “remarkable” and something “which many considered impossible” as relayed by the Athens News Agency.

“In these eight months, not only have there been no power cuts in Europe, but we have also managed to fill our gas storages by around 96%. We are safe for the winter. But this comes at the cost of its higher prices energy. And all this affects the competitiveness of many European industries – especially the energy-intensive sectors of our economyhe pointed out.

In addition, Ursula von der Leyen emphasized that “an aggressive Russia threatens our democracies and blackmails us with our dependence on fossil fuels”, while regarding Beijing she noted that “an increasingly assertive China is cultivating dependencies on all continents to project power for its own interests”.

On the opposite side, Ms von der Leyen placed Europe and the US. “Instead, look at what the US and Europe can achieve if we join forces. Take Ukraine. Consider the massive impact of our sanctions.

Think about how much support we have mobilized, from our countries and the world, to help Ukraine in the last nine months” he noted and gave the decision on the oil ceiling as an example.
