Uruguay River should remain above flood level in municipalities in RS

The level of the Uruguay River should remain above the flood level in the Rio Grande do Sul municipalities of Uruguaiana, Itaqui and São Borja, according to a bulletin from the Brazilian Geological Survey (SGB). In Uruguaiana, the forecast is for an increase in water levels, while in Itaqui and São Borja the forecast is for a reduction.

In Uruguaiana, the level of the Uruguay River is at 12.15 meters, and the forecast is that it will rise to 12.21 meters by tomorrow, remaining above the flood level of 8.50 meters.

In Itaqui, the water level is expected to fall from 12.36 to 12.21 meters, while in São Borja the projection is for a drop from 11.58 to 11.26 meters. In the two municipalities, the flood level is 8.30 and 9.00 meters, respectively.

The SGB also predicted that the level of the Ibicuí River, which is above the flooding level in Manoel Viana and Itaqui, should decrease. In Manoel Viana, the river is expected to decrease from 11.23 meters to 10.96 meters – still above the flood level of 9.60 meters. In Itaqui, the waters are at 10.64 meters and should decrease, but there is no SGB estimate for the exact level. The flood level, in this case, is 7.50 meters.
