Uruguayans change habits and leave mate aside for origin coffee

who was in Uruguay for more than a decade, it has kept in the memory people walking back and forth with a thermos under their arm and mate in hand.

Habit that we see in squares, markets, fairs, in circles with friends, on the rambla… Every time it was mate time.

The reality has not changed: drinking continues to have a strong presence in the lives of Uruguayans, but nine years ago, when the group from Coffee Cult appeared, some habits began to change.

Unlike Brazil, which, as a coffee producer, cannot import green beans as a protective measure for producers, Uruguay has permission and has been taking advantage of this possibility very well.

The main advantages of importing the bean is that, in addition to obtaining the product from a wide variety of countries, local roasting allows quality control and freshness in the process, resulting in a coffee of the highest quality.

To keep up with the increase in consumption of the drink, classic coffee shops now share the scene with modern places with well-kept cuisine. And new establishments keep popping up.

Below, I selected some of my favorites in the three main tourist regions of the country: Montevideo , Colonia del Sacramento It is Punta del Este.

Coffee Cult

A pioneer in importing non-Brazilian coffee to roast in Uruguay, the brand started with a tuk-tuk at events.

With two stores in Montevideo (La Tostaduría, in Canelones, and another in Ciudad Vieja), today, in addition to distributing specialty coffees to other coffee shops and restaurants, they receive customers in ample space and with a short but well-executed menu, snacks and snacks to accompany coffee and other beverages.

From the classics for breakfast to a snack or salad for lunch, everything arrives at the table always very tasty.

The curation of cafes by Cult, which today has an average of 12 coffees of different origin per year, intends to reach 24 to supply its new club. And the best news for us Brazilians is that from August we will also have access to part of that selection.

The brand arrives with an e-commerce platform bringing freshly roasted international coffees directly from the neighboring country to the Brazilian market, where it is already possible to follow their Instagram: @culto_br.
