US: 28 cases of thrombosis in 8.7 million vaccinations with Johnson & Johnson

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention of USA announced today (12/05) that they have identified 28 cases of serious, potentially life-threatening, blood clots, among the more than 8.7 million people who received the coronavirus vaccine prepared by the Johnson & Johnson.

In a presentation of the evidence to date, the CDCs “argue for a reasonable causal link” between the J&J vaccine administration and incidents thrombosis with thrombocytopenic syndrome (TTS).

TTS includes blood clots associated with low platelet counts.

Three of the 28 people died. As of April 25, the CDC had reported 17 cases of thrombosis among the approximately 8 million people who received the vaccine.

As it is underlined and based on what the APE-MPE conveys, the incidents seem to be similar to those observed after the administration of the AstraZeneca vaccine in Europe.

The syndrome does not appear to be related to any of the Pfizer / BioNTech Covid-19 or Moderna vaccines.

Most cases involve women between the ages of 18 and 49, the CDC said. The rates in women aged 30-39 and 40-49 were particularly high, according to the presentation, 12.4 cases per million and 9.4 cases per million, respectively.

Only six of the thrombosis cases identified were male.
