US: $ 3.25 million in compensation to African-American family killed by police officer

The huge sum of $ 3.25 million will be received as compensation the family of African-American Dode Wright, who was killed on USA seized by a police officer during a traffic control.

Specifically, he was killed on April 11 2021, when veteran police officer Kimberly Potter confused her service weapon with the teaser and opened fire on the 20-year-old, who resisted control by her colleagues. He was found guilty of negligent homicide and sentenced to two years in prison.

Dode Wright’s death sparked outrage across the United States, and many saw it as another example of unwarranted police violence against African Americans. Wright fell dead a few miles north of the scene where Officer Derek Sauvin killed George Floyd, kneeling on his neck for nearly nine minutes. The City of Minneapolis agreed in March 2021 to pay $ 27 million in compensation to Floyd’s family over his death.

In fact, Wright’s family lawyers said that the out-of-court settlement in the lawsuit against the Brooklyn Center would not be considered complete until the two sides agreed on a second issue, the retraining of the city police.

“The family hopes that (Dode Wright’s) legacy will be positive and will prevent other families from experiencing such pain,” they said.

Brooklyn City Hall officials were not immediately available for comment.
