The United States and Germany signed an agreement on Friday to deepen bilateral cooperation to replace fossil fuels with renewable energy as part of efforts to curb climate change.
Under the agreement, the two countries will work on the development and use of technologies that accelerate the transition to clean energy, particularly in the area of offshore wind energy, zero-emission vehicles and hydrogen.
The two sides also pledged to collaborate to advance ambitious climate policies and energy security at the global level.
US climate envoy John Kerry said the two nations hope to reap the benefits of switching to clean energy early, by creating new jobs and opportunities for businesses in the growing market for renewable products.
German Finance and Climate Protection Minister Robert Habeck said the agreement reflects the urgency of dealing with the issue of global warming.
Scientists claim that drastic cuts in gas emissions need to be made worldwide this decade for the targets set in the 2015 Paris Agreement to be met.
