Shortly after Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” in the Donbas region of eastern Ukraine, US President Joe Biden said that “the United States, its allies and partners will respond in a united and decisive manner.”
In a statement released by the White House early on Thursday, Biden said that “Russia alone is responsible for the death and destruction that this attack will bring.”
“The prayers of the entire world are with Ukraine tonight, which is suffering an unjustifiable attack by Russian military forces. President Putin has chosen a premeditated war that will bring catastrophic loss of life and human suffering.”
Biden said he will continue to monitor the situation at the White House throughout the night, and he will receive any updates from his national security team. The US president will meet with G7 leaders on Thursday before announcing new measures against Russia.
