President Donald Trump ordered the Armed Forces to increase the presence along the southern border. As a result, thousands of active American soldiers were sent there as part of the government’s continuous military mission.
In April, the Department of Defense took jurisdiction over certain federal lands along the US and Mexico border, including the Roosevelt Reserve, an 18 -meter -wide land track along the border for military purposes.

General Gregory Guillot, commander of the US Northern Command, said in a statement that establishing a second area “increases the operational reach and effectiveness in the denial of illegal activities along the southern border.”
“This is the second area where members of the South Border Task Force, which are already detecting and monitoring through nearby stationary positions and mobile patrols, can now temporarily determine until they are transferred to an appropriate police entity,” said Guillot.
National defense areas are treated as extensions of military facilities for safety purposes, allowing soldiers to perform multitudes control measures, perform rapid intruder searches and temporarily stop them until police authorities are delivered.
