US asks Taiwan to close car chip shortage

Taiwan Economy Minister Wang Mei-hua confirmed today that she received a letter from the White House regarding a shortage of automotive electronics chips. As we already reported, shortages have become a problem for automakers around the world, which in some cases even have to stop production.

Wang told reporters that she received the letter on Friday evening, adding that she had previously met with local chip manufacturers on the matter. According to the minister, Taiwanese semiconductor manufacturers are “doing what they must” to solve the problem.

Wang added that the problem affects car manufacturers not only in the United States, but also in other parts of the world.

The deficit affected Volkswagen, Ford Motor, Subaru, Toyota Motor, Nissan Motor, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and other automakers.
