US: Attempts at contacts with North Korea to no avail

The teams of the president of USA Joe Biden has been trying to contact her for several weeks North Korea but they have not succeeded.

“We have been trying to get in touch with the North Korean government through different channels since mid-February, especially in New York,” said a senior US official, who did not want to be named.

“To date, we have not received any response from Pyongyang,” he added.

According to the official, the purpose of the communication was to reduce the risks of escalation on the Korean peninsula.

After exchanging insults and threats of nuclear war, Kim Jong Un and Donald Trump took a spectacular approach, marked by historic as well as symbolic encounters.

However, no progress has been made on the thorny issue of Pyongyang’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, and negotiations have “frozen” following the failure of the second meeting between the two men in late February 2019 in Hanoi.

A Biden administration official said there had been no active dialogue between Washington and Pyongyang for more than a year.

The new president has studied US policy toward Pyongyang in depth to consider all possible options in the face of North Korea’s growing threat to its neighbors and the international community, he said.

In early January, Kim described the United States as North Korea’s biggest enemy, adding that Washington’s policy toward Pyongyang would never change, no matter who the US leadership is.
