Authorities in the United States were taken by surprise when they discovered from an airport X-ray that a passenger was carrying a cat in a suitcase.
The case took place earlier this month at Norfolk International Airport, in the state of Virginia.
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA, its acronym in English) – the US government agency responsible for security at airports – revealed the case through a publication on Twitter.
“Just when you think it’s safe to take your pet cat on a trip… A passenger left her cat in her suitcase at a TSA checkpoint at Norfolk Airport this morning,” spokeswoman Lisa Farbstein wrote.

“Attention pet owners: Do not send your animal to the X-ray. Catastrophic mistake!”, he added, making a pun in English with the word “cat-astrophic”.
According to Farbstein, after TSA agents noticed the cat through the X-ray, the owner and the animal were sent to be screened “in the proper manner.”
“The proper way, in this case, is to remove the cat from the suitcase,” added the spokeswoman.
The TSA posted a video on Instagram instructing US airport passengers how to bring their pets during screening.
The cat’s owner did not have the identity revealed by the American agency.
