US sanctions Russian oil and gas
US President Joe Biden has banned oil and natural gas imports from Russia. Biden says that the measure was taken after consulting allies and that he understands that this move could increase the price of fuel in the country and in the world.
UK will also reduce imports from Russia
UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said he will reduce imports of Russian oil and oil products by the end of this year. The European Union also announced a plan to reduce Russia’s energy dependence.
Zelensky addresses the British Parliament
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the British Parliament via videoconference. Zelensky called for Russia to be considered a terrorist country and called for increased sanctions. At the end of the speech, the Ukrainian president was given a standing ovation by parliamentarians.
Truce announcement in 5 Ukrainian cities
Russia announced a truce for the departure of civilians, starting at 10 am on Wednesday (9), Moscow time. Humanitarian corridors will be provided for residents of Kiev and four other cities in Ukraine.
McDonald’s suspends operations in Russia
McDonald’s temporarily closed all restaurants in Russia due to the country’s attacks on Ukraine. In all, the fast food chain had 847 stores in the country.
