US President Joe Biden will ask Congress to release another $ 33 billion for Ukraine, 20 of which will go to military aid, a senior US official said today.
Biden will also propose the liquidation of assets of Russian oligarchs to compensate Ukraine for its losses. This proposal requires the assent of Congress.
Of the $ 33 billion, $ 20 billion will be for weapons, ammunition and other military aid, $ 8.5 billion will be for direct financial assistance to the Ukrainian government, and the remaining $ 3 billion will be for humanitarian and food aid.
After the Russian invasion of Ukraine, US military aid amounted to $ 3 billion. According to the US government, the US and its European allies have frozen the assets of Russian oligarchs, valued at $ 30 billion, such as yachts, helicopters, buildings and works of art.
