US: Biden to make public statement Jan. 6, anniversary of Capitol attack

US President Joe Biden will make a public statement on January 6, the anniversary of the deadly attack on the Capitol by supporters of former President Donald Trump, the White House announced today.

“I think it’s safe to say that the American people will hear from him that day,” White House spokeswoman Jane Psaki told reporters.

Details have not been finalized, a White House spokeswoman said.

Four people were killed that day, and a Capitol police officer succumbed to his injuries the next day while defending Congress. Hundreds of police officers were injured during the long-running attack by Trump supporters, and four police officers have since committed suicide.

Former Republican President Trump is accused of instigating the riots, which marched on the Capitol after being heard speaking outside the White House. Trump told a crowd of supporters he would never recognize the outcome of the Nov. 3 election and called on them to “fight like hell” before heading to the Capitol, where lawmakers and senators were preparing to ratify Democratic victory for Joe Biden. .

More than 700 people have been arrested in connection with the attack on the Capitol. A special congressional hearing about that were exactly where the Trump administration came from.

Trump said yesterday, Tuesday, that he would give a press conference on January 6 about the events of that day.
