US congressmen parachute into France on D-Day anniversary

US Congressmen in the House of Representatives are preparing for a parachute jump into Normandy in northern France as part of the commemoration of the 1944 D-Day landings that led to the end of World War II.

The jump was scheduled for Friday (7), reported the American news network ABC.

Lawmakers recorded videos of the preparations on the ground and in planes that flew over the beaches of Normandy.

The place was where, 80 years earlier, more than 150,000 Allied soldiers invaded France by sea and air to expel the forces of Nazi Germany, landing on five beaches codenamed Omaha, Juno, Sword, Utah and Gold or in the sky.

On Thursday (6), a series of major ceremonies took place with World War II veterans and world leaders.

In one of the videos posted on Many of the heroes of D-Day were just teenagers jumping into a war zone, with primitive equipment, at night.”

Republican Derrick Van Orden, a retired Navy Seal, the United States Navy’s top special operations force, recorded the call before boarding the plane.

American network ABC News said the trip was organized by Republicans Mike Waltz and Jason Crow and that the bipartisan group was expected to include 10 congressmen, all veterans, traveling to France to honor and pay tribute to US and allied troops.

Crow, who served in the Army’s 82nd Airborne Division and 75th Ranger Regiment, and Waltz made a similar leap for the 75th anniversary.
