US consumer confidence improved further in December

US consumer confidence improved further in December, indicating that the economy will continue to expand in 2022 despite a resurgence of COVID-19 emissions and reduced fiscal stimulus.

The Conference Board said Wednesday that the consumer confidence index rose to 115.8 this month from a revised 111.9 in November. Economists polled by Reuters had forecast that the index would rise to 110.8 from 109.5 in November.

The US state is experiencing an explosion in COVID-19 infections due to Delta, but especially now the highly contagious Omicron variant, which could hamper economic activity in the first quarter.
