With the numbers, the agency estimates that visitors spend US$ 279 billion annually in the country – an amount that will help generate jobs.
To give you an idea, in 2019, before the pandemic, the North American travel and tourism industry had 9.5 million jobs – that is, 1 in 20 jobs in the country was directly or indirectly linked to the sector.
“The impact of Covid-19 has affected our national and local economies, but it has also presented us with a unique opportunity to shape a more inclusive, equitable, sustainable and resilient tourism industry,” said Gina Raimondo, US Secretary of Commerce, in a statement. United States.

The climate of optimism about the future was presented during the IPW, the largest tourism fair in the United States, which takes place this year between June 4th and 8th in Orlando at Florida.
Roger Dow, president of the US Travel Association, believes that the tourism recovery will take place next year, in 2023.
But data from Brand USA, an organization that markets the US as a premium destination, points out that recovery could happen fully only in 2025 when, according to the organization’s president, Christopher Thompson, the goal is to exceed the 79 million visitors that the country received in 2019.
These numbers were released even without taking into account the end of the Covid-19 negative test requirements and full vaccination schedule to enter the country but talks with the capital Washington are in progress, according to information presented in the IPW.
As in other territories around the world, the US travel and tourism sector was one of the most affected by the closures and restrictions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. But with mass vaccination and the easing of international restrictions on movement, the US tourist industry has outlined the beginning of its recovery. International arrivals to the United States grew 15% in 2021 compared to 2020, when 22.1 million international visitors were in the country.
