US Defense: Russia Adds Aircraft, Stocks Up Border Blood Supplies

US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said the US government is not seeing any sort of withdrawal of Russian troops from the border with Ukraine. Instead, the US continues to see Russia increase its capabilities and troops “even in the last couple of days,” Austin said during a press conference at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Thursday.

Austin said the US is seeing Russia “flying more combat and support aircraft” as well as “improving its readiness in the Black Sea” and even “supplying its blood supplies”.

He also said the country has seen some of Russia’s troops “closer to that border” with Ukraine in recent days.

“I myself was a soldier not long ago, and I know firsthand that you don’t do these kinds of things for no reason, and you certainly don’t if you’re getting ready to pack up and head home. so we and our allies will remain vigilant,” Austin said.

The US secretary said that while the US is still “gathering the details” about the bombing of Ukraine’s Donbass region, there is concern that it could have been done by Russia to create a pretext for an invasion.

“We’ve said for a while that the Russians can do something like this to justify a military conflict,” Austin said. “So we’ll be watching this very closely.”
