Three organizations affiliated with the US Democratic Party have announced plans to return donations received from the bankrupt FTX exchange. Funds in excess of $1 million will be used to pay victims.
Refunds have been announced by the Democratic National Committee (DNC), the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee (DSCC), and the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC).
“Given allegations of potential campaign finance violations by FTX Founder Sam Bankman-Fried, we are committing funds to return $815,000 in contributions received since 2020. Once the action plan is agreed upon, we will return the funds promptly.” – said the representative of the DNC.
The DSCC and DCCC organizations will return $103,000 and $250,000, respectively. At the same time, the founder of FTX himself previously reported that he had donated about $40 million to various democratic organizations. He later stated that he secretly donated a similar amount to Republican groups.
Interestingly, the White House received a noticeably larger amount from Bankman-Fried – about $5.2 million. At the same time, officials refuse to answer questions about the fate of these funds, sending them to DNC representatives.
