US: Democratic ‘rebellion’ blocked the right to abortion

With Democrat Joe Manchin splitting from the party line and siding with Republicans, the opposition blocked the Senate from enacting a law on women’s right to abortion.

In particular, in view of the publication of the decision of the Supreme Court, which according to what has become known overturns a fundamental protection of women for decades, the Democrats tried to pass the Roe v. Opinion in Congress as a state law. Wade of 1973 under which abortions have since been allowed in the country.

However, Democrat Joe Manchin sided with the Republican opposition by voting against his party’s proposal.

It is recalled that based on the last elections, the two parties are divided by 50 senators, which means that in case of a tie, the vice president of the country, the Democratic Kamala Harris, is called to solve the impasse with her own vote.

Something that was not possible after the “rebellion” of Mancin, who tilted the scales on the side of the opposition with 51-49.

It is worth noting that the leader of the Democrats in the House Chuck Sumer went to the polls even though he knew the position of Manchin, in order to officially record the position of each senator on the issue.
