US efforts to uphold the agreement between North Macedonia and Greece

The US is working to ensure that the new North Macedonian government respects the Prespa Agreement, Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O’Brien stressed. During a hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the US diplomat argued that the contacts of US lawmakers are useful to keep North Macedonia committed to the agreement. “North Macedonia has suffered because of the disputes with its neighbors, which constantly changes the (accession) requirements for it. Part of our job is to diplomatically prepare a way for (North Macedonia) to maintain the agreement it has with Greece. And I think that the meeting you had and others have helped to keep things at this point, so that Greece becomes a friend and not an obstacle to the accession process of North Macedonia.
