US Elections: Congressional Control Still Uncertain; see the situation

Three days after the polls close in the United States, election officials continue to tally votes and the battle for control of the House and Senate remains fierce.

Voting laws governing when and how ballots are counted differ by state, allowing some states to finish relatively quickly, while others can take several days. However, ifand the elections weren’t so close, it wouldn’t take that long to find out who won.

Senate

In the Senate, votes are still being counted in Arizona and Nevada.

In Clark County, the largest in Nevada, which includes Las Vegas, CNN estimates that there are about 24,000 more ballots to be counted, along with about 15,000 provisional ballots and ballots that need to be remedied.

In Washoe County, Nevada’s second most populous, there were about 10,000 ballots counted as of Friday, and the CNN estimates that about 12,000 remain. Clark County Clerk, Joe Gloria said the county expects to largely run out of remaining mail-in votes by Saturday. Those ballots are being inspected at the county board of counts, Gloria said.

State law allows mail-in ballots to be received in Nevada by Saturday, although ballots must be posted by Election Day to be valid.

Maricopa County, Arizona, which includes Phoenix, reported about 80,000 more votes Friday night, which included many of the mail-in ballots that were left at polling stations on Election Day. There are about 275,000 ballots to count in the county, according to Maricopa County Board of Supervisors Chairman Bill Gates.

Gates said he hopes that if they keep counting at the same pace — about 60,000 to 80,000 votes a day — the county should finish counting “early next week.”

Pima County, Arizona’s second most populous and home to Tucson, is expected to have about 85,000 votes left to count by the end of Friday, Constance Hargrove, the county’s director of elections, told CNN 🇧🇷 Hargove said he waits until Monday for Pima County to have a majority of the remaining votes counted.

She had previously told CNN that all votes would be counted until Monday morning. However, on Friday night she clarified that would no longer be the case due to a large batch of around 80,000 votes received from the recorder’s office earlier that day.

Chamber

Ballots for many races in Arizona, California, Nevada and more are still being counted. There are 21 seats left to be filled.

Democrats have won 203 so far, while Republicans have won 211 (218 seats are needed to control the House), according to projections by the CNN 🇧🇷 Many of the remaining races are in California.
