Thousands of people will go to the polls this Tuesday (5) to choose who will command the White House for the next four years.
This year’s election for president of the United States – which is considered one of the closest in history – is contested by Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Kamala Harris.
Trump was president of the United States between 2016 and 2020, but failed to win re-election after being defeated by Democrat Joe Biden.
Kamala, in turn, is the current vice president of the USA, having been elected in 2020 on the ticket with Biden. In July of this year, Biden, who would be a candidate for re-election, announced his withdrawal from the race for the White House.
Candidates must secure at least 270 Electoral College votes – half plus one – to win the US Presidency. However, polls show them tied in the main American states that should decide the result
The last national survey carried out by CNN conducted by SSRS, shows that Kamala and Trump each have exactly 47% support among likely voters — in the USA, voting is not mandatory, and getting people to go to the polls is one of the main challenges for candidates.
