US federal agents invade building in Puerto Rico behind immigrants

United States federal agents searched unocuable immigrants in San Juan, Puerto Rico on Sunday (26).

The operation, conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) agents, targeted a building in the Santurce neighborhood, where at least 10 people were arrested, witnesses.

Ramon Munoz, the building’s owner, told Reuters that agents entered excessive force, breaking doors and causing significant damage. “The president’s orders must be obeyed, but not with violence,” he said.

Separately, Jose Rodriguez, president of the Dominican Human Rights Committee in Puerto Rico, criticized the actions and pointed to a contradiction in the guarantees made by the governor of Puerto Rico, Jenniffer Gonzalez-Colon.

“It looks like she was poorly advised, because it is happening,” he said.

Rodriguez also asked Dominicans in Puerto Rico to avoid revealing their origin to the authorities and invoke the fifth amendment, which protects individuals from self -incrimination and ensures due process.

On his first day in office, US President Donald Trump declared an illegal immigration a national emergency, guiding the US Army to assist in border security.

He also implemented a wide prohibition of asylum and introduced measures to restrict citizenship for children born on American soil.
