The United States imposed sanctions this Wednesday (30) on hundreds of targets in a new action against Russia, signaling that the US will continue to combat the violation of its restrictions imposed due to Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine.
Carried out by the US Treasury and State departments, the action imposed sanctions on almost 400 entities and individuals from dozens of different countries, according to statements from the departments.
The action was the largest joint effort yet against breaches by other countries, a State Department official told Reuters, and includes sanctions on dozens of companies in China, Hong Kong and India, according to the official.
Companies in Russia, the United Arab Emirates, Turkey, Thailand, Malaysia, Switzerland, among others, were also targeted by sanctions.
“This should send a serious message to governments and the private sector in these countries that the U.S. government is committed to countering the violation of our sanctions against Russia and to continuing to put pressure on Russia to end the war in Ukraine,” the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
The US Treasury Department has imposed sanctions on 274 targets, while the State Department has designated more than 120 and the Commerce Department has added 40 companies and research institutions to a trade restriction list for alleged support of the Russian military.
