US for Bahtseli map: The sovereignty and territorial integrity of Greece is not disputed

“Our position on the issue is clear, the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Greece is not in question,” the State Department spokesman clarified, commenting on the Turkish map depicting several Aegean islands as well as Crete as Turkish territories by Tayyip’s government partner Erdogan.

It is recalled that the president of the Nationalist Action Party, Devlet Bakhceli, was photographed with this map during his visit to the offices of the Gray Wolves, which are a branch of his party.

Responding today to a question posed by Greek correspondents about whether the US is concerned about the entrenchment of a nationalist and revisionist climate in the neighboring country, the State Department spokesman made it clear in the clearest way that for the US the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Greece is not are disputed.

Subsequently, the representative of the US Ministry of Foreign Affairs reiterated the constant position of Washington, which calls on the two NATO allies to work in a diplomatic way to resolve their differences and to refrain from rhetoric that can lead to the rekindling of tensions.

In particular, he said that “we continue to encourage our NATO allies, Greece and Turkey, to work together to maintain peace and security in the region and to resolve disputes in a diplomatic manner. We urge our allies to avoid rhetoric and the actions that could further escalate the tension”.
