US: Former Trump adviser Pat Cipollone to testify about Capitol invasion

Pat Cipollone, the adviser to former President Donald Trump, has agreed to testify on Friday before the congressional committee investigating the January 6, 2021 attack on the Capitol, multiple US media reported.

Cipollone’s actions during that attack had been described by witnesses in previous House committee hearings. The commission subpoenaed him last week, giving him a week to testify under oath. His testimony will not be public, according to the New York Times and CNN.

Before Cipollone’s subpoena, a former White House adviser testified to the same committee that Cipollone warned her at the time that they would face “all kinds of criminal charges” if Trump went to Capitol Hill after the speech to the crowd that had gathered in Washington on January 6. Trump supporters, even armed with AR-15 rifles, marched to the Capitol and entered the congressional building, trying to block the ratification of Democrat Joe Biden’s victory in the presidential election.

The committee’s investigation “revealed evidence that Mr. Cipollone repeatedly raised his legal and other concerns about President Trump’s actions on Jan. 6 and in the preceding days,” the House committee said in a statement last week.
