The US president, Joe Biden, and the president of Panama, Jose Raul Molino, agreed yesterday Wednesday, 14/8 during their telephone conversation to begin repatriation flights this month of immigrants who crossed illegally into Panamanian territory through the Darien jungle, with funding from Washington, according to a statement from the Central American country’s government. Panama and Washington agreed to the plan in July as part of a broader deal to reduce irregular immigration to the US from or through Latin America. However, Mr. Molino said last week that his government is still waiting for the promised financial aid from the US to start implementing this program. The White House did not respond to Reuters’ request for comment. Source: RES
