The United States government will offer a cost of $ 1,000 (approx. R $ 5,680.00) as well as travel assistance to immigrants who choose to “self-holding” voluntarily from the country, the DHS Department (DHS) said on Monday (5).
Cost allowance and possible airfare to immigrants who voluntarily depart would cost less than a real deportation, the agency said.
The average cost of prison, detention and deportation of someone without legal status costs about $ 17,000 (approx. R $ 96,575.00), according to DHS.
Republican President Donald Trump took office in January this year, promising to deport millions of people, but so far has been behind the deportations of predecessor Democrat Joe Biden.
The Biden government has faced high levels of illegal immigration, and quickly sent many of the immigrants back by crossing the border.
Meanwhile, the Republican government has deported 152,000 people since January 20, still according to DHS, less than the 195,000 deported between February and April last year under Biden’s command.
Trump tried to encourage immigrants to leave voluntarily, threatening them with heavy fines, trying to remove legal status and deporting many of them for notorious arrests, such as Guantanamo Bay and Cecot in El Salvador.
“If you are here illegally, self -support is the best, safest and most economical way to leave the US to avoid arrest,” Kristi Noem, said in a statement.
New application and possible permission to return to the US
In March, the current government renamed an application launched in the Biden government to “CBP Home”, whose goal is to facilitate self -support.
In the Biden government, the platform was called “CBP One”, and was used by the Democrat administration to allow immigrants to legally enter the US.
Trump also presented a preview of the cost aid plan in April, claiming that the US would consider it to allow the return of immigrants.
“If they are good, if we want them back, we will work with them to return as soon as possible,” he said.
In the announcement on Monday (5), DHS stated that people who choose to leave “can help preserve” the ability to return legally, but did not mention any path or specific program.
