US Hockey League Interrupts Team Season After Covid-19 Outbreak

The season of the Ottawa Senators, team of the NHL (National Hockey League, in Portuguese), was interrupted for at least a week due to an outbreak of Covid-19 within the team.

The NHL has postponed the Canadian team’s next three games due to “evidence of continued spread” of the new coronavirus, the US League reported on Monday (14).

Before the 4-0 loss to Calgary Flames on Sunday (14), the team’s top scorer, Drake Batherson, was removed from the lineup and placed on the NHL’s Covid-19 protocol list.

The team entered the game with 10 absences due to protocol. The league claims that the team’s facilities have been closed and will remain closed until further notice.

Games against the New Jersey Devils, Nashville Predators and New York Rangers will be rescheduled. The team has a game scheduled next Monday (22) in Colorado.

This is the first stoppage for an NHL team this season.
