“US image and credibility will be affected,” says China about Harvard

China’s Foreign Ministry said on Friday that it will protect the legitimate rights and interests of its students and academics in response to the Trump government’s decision to prevent Harvard University from enrolling foreign students.

Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning said US actions will undoubtedly “affect their image and credibility,” adding that educational cooperation between the two countries benefits both parties.

The government of US President Donald Trump revoked on Thursday (22) Harvard University permission to enroll international students and is forcing current foreign students to transfer to other institutions or lose legal status, and threaten to expand repression to other educational institutions.

Internal Security Secretary Kristi Noem ordered the Department to cancel the certification of the Harvard University Student and Exchange Program, effective for the 2025–2026 school year, the department said in a statement.

Following Trump’s decision, federal judge Jeffrey White of the São Francisco Federal District Court issued a national injunction preventing the Republican from revoking legal status that allows foreign students to study at US universities.
