U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) field offices have been instructed to meet a quota of 75 arrests per day, according to two sources.
This comes as Donald Trump’s administration attempts to drastically increase apprehensions of illegal immigrants in the US.
In the last fiscal year — which, in the US, corresponds to October 1 to September 30 — ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations made 113,431 administrative arrests, according to an agency report. That would be about 310 arrests per day.
The latest directive for ICE teams would pave the way to surpass the number of daily arrests over the past year while putting pressure on customs agents.
