US: Initial jobless claims rise to 231,000

  • No surprises from the weekly report of requests for unemployment benefits.
  • Initial orders remain around 230,000.
  • Continued orders decrease but less than expected.

The United States Department of Labor reported that initial claims for unemployment benefits they fell by 2,000 in the week ended June 25 to 231,000, higher than the market consensus of 228,000. With said week, there are already four in which the initial orders are around 232,000.

The continued claims for unemployment benefit they fell by 3,000 to 1,328,000 in the week ended June 18, more than the 1.31 million expected by the average of analyst estimates. Despite this, the figure remains close to the lowest in decades.

Along with these figures, the personal income and expense report was released. The dollar backed off immediately after the post but after a few minutes regained much of the lost ground. The greenback rises and has solid support due to the risk aversion prevailing at the close of June.
