U.S. citizens filing for first-time unemployment insurance benefits reached 227,000 in the week ending Aug. 31, the U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) said Thursday. The numbers were below the initial consensus (231,000) and lower than the previous weekly figure of 232,000 (revised from 231,000).
Further details of the release revealed that the seasonally adjusted insured unemployment rate was 1.2% and the 4-week moving average was 230,000, a decrease of 1,750 from the previous week’s revised average.
Additionally, continuing claims decreased by 22,000 to 1,838,000 in the week ending August 24.
