U.S. citizens filing for unemployment insurance benefits increased by 238,000 in the week ending June 15, according to the U.S. Department of Labor (DoL) on Thursday. The numbers exceeded initial estimates (235,000) and were slightly lower than the previous weekly increase of 243,000 (revised from 242,000).
Additionally, continuing claims increased by 15,000 to 1.828 million in the week ending June 8.
Market reaction
The US Dollar Index (DXY) is trading with decent gains near the 105.40 region, partially reversing the recent multi-session pullback following the release of weekly claims.
