US: Initial jobless claims unexpectedly drop to 214,000

  • Initial requests for unemployment benefits are located at 214,000 against 230,000 expected.
  • Continued orders rise to 1.38 million against 1.37 expected.
  • The dollar falls on Thursday against most of its rivals.

The United States Department of Labor reported that Initial jobless claims fell by 12,000 to 214,000in the week ended October 15, below the 230,000 market consensus.

The continued claims for unemployment benefit they went from 1,364,000 to 1,385,000 in the week ended October 8, exceeding the 1,375,000 expected.

At the same time, the Philly Fed manufacturing index was released. The Conference Board report on existing home sales and consumer confidence will be released later. The dollar gained momentum after the latest data, and moved away from the lows of the day, although it remained in negative territory.
