US intelligence agencies trained Brazilian police officers to investigate cryptocrimes

American intelligence agencies shared with colleagues from Brazil methods of combating theft and shadow transactions with cryptocurrencies, collecting evidence related to cybercrime, and interrogation techniques.

Brazilian Ministry of Justice and Public Security reportedthat 80 agents of the Brazilian security forces met with representatives of the US intelligence services in Rio de Janeiro and Porto Alegre for two weeks. As part of a partnership between the Brazilian government and the US Consulate, agents from the FBI, the US Federal Police, the CIA, the Intelligence Center, ICHIP and the Department of Homeland Security participated in a hands-on conference dedicated to the investigation of crimes involving cryptoassets.

“We are investing heavily in technical improvements to keep security agents up to date with the most advanced forms of crime fighting,” said Attorney General and Public Safety Secretary Anderson Torres.

Bráulio de Melo, Assistant Secretary for Integrated Operations, noted that sharing knowledge with US agents gives Brazilian police officers the technical and practical skills that will help them fight various digital asset crimes, such as account theft, cryptocurrency fraud. , tax evasion and money laundering.

Recall that in January, the Brazilian police arrested the South African Johann Steinberg, the fugitive organizer of the largest cryptocurrency pyramid in 2020, Mirror Trading International.
