US: Islamic State remains a threat

The threat remains Islamic state, as a US special envoy warned yesterday Monday.

The terrorist organization continues to pose a significant threat to the security of Syria, Iraq, Europe and North America, said John Godfrey, who serves as US special envoy to the international coalition against IS.

According to Mr. Godfrey, as broadcast by AMPE, “after the defeat of IK” and the collapse of his “alleged caliphate” in 2019, the organization has shifted its focus to the action of its branches and network.

This is shown by the attack that took place over the weekend in Mozambique, which resulted in the death of more than 55 members of the security forces, the special envoy continued.

“Attacks like these are a clear indication that the IK continues to actively seek to spread its malicious activity to new fronts “.

“Ensuring the ongoing, global defeat of the IK will require that its arms and networks beyond Iraq and Syria be tackled effectively, and we as a coalition recognize this,” he added.

Several foreign ministers participating in the international coalition against the IC will participate today in a video conference co-hosted by the US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken and Sophie Wilmes, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belgium.

Today’s discussion will focus on the coalition’s ongoing efforts in Iraq and Syria, Godfrey said.

However, the growing threat posed by the terrorist organization beyond Iraq and Syria, especially in Africa, will be raised, and ways the coalition can contribute to the collective effort to defeat the IS internationally, he added.
