US: Jobs fell to 10.4 million in September

Job vacancies in the US fell in September, but remained well above pre-pandemic levels as employers continued to struggle to find work.

In particular, vacancies fell on the last day of September to 10.4 million, according to the monthly report released by the US Department of Labor on Friday, from 10.6 million which is the upward revised report for August.

Economists polled by Reuters expected a slight drop as they put job vacancies at 10.3 million.

During the same period, resignations increased by 164,000 to 4.4 million, a record high.

The government said last Friday that recruitment outside the agri-food sector rose by 531,000 in October, the largest increase in three months, after rising by 312,000 in September.
