Data released by the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) revealed Wednesday that the number of job openings on the last business day of April stood at 10.1 million, up from 9.74 million in March. This figure exceeds market expectations, which expected 9.37 million.
“Throughout the month, the number of hires changed little, standing at 6.1 million. Total contract breaks decreased to 5.7 million,” the BLS noted in its publication. “Within breaks, resignations (3.8 million) were little changed, while layoffs and layoffs (1.6 million) were down.”
Market reaction
The US dollar strengthened against its rivals following this report and the Dollar Index is up 0.5% on the day to 104.58.
