The number of job offers rose to 10.7 million on the last business day of September, as reported on Tuesday the US Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) in its Job Openings and Job Turnover Summary (JOLTS). This data exceeded market expectations, which expected 10 million.
“The number of hires fell to 6.1 million, while the total separations fell to 5.7 million,” according to the publication, “Within separations, resignations (4.1 million) changed little and layoffs and discharges (1.3 million) they went down.”
Market reaction
The Dollar Index, which hit a daily low of 110.79, gained ground after this report and lost 0.2% on the day to settle at 111.35.
