The Justice Department has opened an investigation into Andrew Cuomo, former New York governor and the leading mayoral candidate of New York City, following an appointment from Congress Republicans who accused Cuomo of lying during an investigation into his government’s response to Covid-19, an informed person said.
The incipient survey occurs after a request prior to the Biden government that did not result in an investigation.
The measure also occurs after justice authorities ended a process separated by corruption against Eric Adams, the current mayor of New York and one of Cuomo’s rivals in the dispute for the position. “Governor Cuomo witnessed with sincerity, according to his best memories, about events four years earlier and offered to answer any complementary questions of the subcommittee, but from the beginning, all this was transparently political,” added Azzopardi.
A court official defended the moment of lawsuits against Adams and Cuomo, saying, “This Justice Department ended the government’s instrumentalization and will continue to follow the facts in all cases to restore a level of justice for the whole America.”
The investigation occurs at a time when Cuomo tries to return to politics after waiving the position of governor in 2021 amid a scandal of sexual misconduct. Cuomo denied the accusations that he sexually harassed 11 women, presented in a report by New York Attorney General, Letitia James, who is also under investigation by the Trump administration.
