US-led international anti-jihadist coalition captures Islamic State operative in Syria

The US-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) has said its forces arrested a leader of the Islamic State (IS) organization during an operation in Syria in the early hours of today.

“The detainee is believed to be an experienced bomb maker, a man who facilitated the operation of the organization and had become one of its top leaders in Syria,” said a statement from the coalition, which confirmed that no civilians were injured in the operation. one of its aircraft was damaged.

The statement did not specify exactly where the operation took place in Syria.

A Turkish-backed Syrian rebel official told Reuters earlier today that coalition forces, transported by helicopter, had raided the village of Al Humaira, near the Turkish-Syrian border, stressing that the first specific area.

Maj. Youssef Hamoud, a spokesman for the Syrian National Army (SNS), said the operation was carried out by special forces men moving in Chinook and Black Hawk helicopters, without elaborating.

“This is the first time (US) helicopters have landed in an ESS-controlled area,” he said.

According to another source in the area, exchanges of fire broke out during the operation.
