US lost to China in artificial intelligence

The United States has already lost the AI battle to China, which is moving towards global dominance by exploiting advances in new cyber capabilities. This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Financial Times by the former director of the Pentagon for software.

According to estimates by Western intelligence services, China, the world’s second largest economy, is likely to dominate many key emerging technologies within about a decade, notably artificial intelligence, synthetic biology and genetics.

Nicolas Chaillan, the first Pentagon director of software to resign in protest at the slow pace of technological change in the US military, said the lack of response puts the United States at risk.

“We have no competitive chances to confront China for 15-20 years. It is now a fait accompli; in my opinion, it’s too late ”, – quotes the source of his words.

According to Cheillan, China was determined to dominate the future of the world, controlling everything from media narratives to geopolitics. The retired Pentagon director of software also believes that cyber defense in some US government departments is “at the kindergarten level.”

Chillan criticized Google’s reluctance to partner with the US Department of Defense on AI, and the debate over the ethics of AI that has slowed the growth of the United States economy. According to him, the Chinese government has obliged local companies to work in this area and make “massive investments” in AI, regardless of ethics.
