US media: Russia asked China for war equipment – Chinese Embassy in US: We have no knowledge

Russia has asked China for military equipment to invade Ukraine on February 24, the Financial Times and the Washington Post reported on Sunday, citing US officials.

US National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan will be in Rome on Monday to meet with China’s top diplomat Yang Jiechi, the White House said earlier.

Russia, which calls its action in Ukraine a “special operation,” and China have stepped up co-operation as they come under strong Western pressure on human rights and a number of other issues.

Beijing has not condemned the Russian attack and does not call it an invasion, but has sought a negotiated solution.

The White House National Security Council declined to comment.

The Washington Post reported that unidentified U.S. officials did not say what type of weapon had been requested.

For his part, the spokesman for the Chinese embassy in the United States said he had “never heard of such a thing.”
