US Midterm Elections: Thriller for Senate Control Continues – Nevada and Arizona Are the Battle

All eyes on USA are aimed today at Arizona and the Nevadawhere hundreds of thousands of uncounted votes they will judge which party will have him control of the Senate, three days after by-elections.

Both Democrats and Republicans can win a majority in the Senate if they win both states. If they do win one state, however, the Dec. 6 runoff election in Georgia will decide the battle.

The result in Arizona and Nevada could be delayed a few more days, as officials in both states estimate that the counting of mail-in ballots will take until next week.

Meanwhile Republicans are slowly getting closer to gaining a majority in the House of Representativeswhich will give them the right to veto his legislative initiatives Joe Biden. Even a small Republican majority in that chamber could force the Biden administration to make concessions in exchange for votes on major issues, such as raising the US debt limit.

The Republicans, as APE-MPE notes, have secured at least 211 of the 218 seats needed to control the House of Representatives, according to Edison Research forecasts late yesterday, Thursday, while the Democrats have gathered 197. They remain to be judged. 27 seats, for some of which the battle is chest to chest.

House Republican leader Kevin McCarthy has already said he plans to run for speaker of the chamber if his party wins a majority, which he described as “inevitable” on Wednesday.

Biden said Thursday that he had spoken with McCarthy, but added that he has not given up hope that the Democrats will eventually win. “They are still alive,” he said, referring to his party’s hopes.
